Anthony J. Alteio's Obituary
Anthony J. Alteio, age 89, of Georgetown, DE, formerly of Bloomingburg, NY, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, at home. He was born on November 1, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Frank and Carmela (Manno) Alteio.
Anthony honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After serving his country, he worked for the City of New York as a police officer until his retirement. Anthony was a man of many interests and talents. He loved gardening, was a skilled woodcarver and possessed the skills to tackle any household repair or project. He meticulously created the stations of the cross that adorn the walls of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Bloomingburg, NY, where Anthony and his wife, Loretta were faithful members for over fifty years. He volunteered his free time at Cornell Cooperative Extension in Middletown, NY, and Ramapo Library where he read to the visually impaired and was a member of the Mid-Hudson Woodcarvers Guild. Above all else, he cherished the time he spent with those he loved most. Anthony was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend and will be deeply missed by those fortunate enough to have known him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Alteio and his sister, Louise Varricchio. He is survived by his beloved wife, Loretta C. (DeLio) Alteio, of Georgetown, DE; his sons, Frank Alteio (Linda) of Milton, DE, and Anthony Alteio (Sarah) of Kingston, NY; his daughter. Andrea Paquette (Bruce Johnson) of Arlington, MA; his five grandchildren, Lauren Alteio, Alexandra Alteio, Morgan Alteio, Thomas Alteio, and Gabrielle Paquette. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Falcone, of Staten Island, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 202 Edward Street, Georgetown, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. A chapel committal service with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Anthony’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
