Anne H. Schenk's Obituary
Anne H. Schenk. age 96, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Wallingford, PA, died on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Brandywine Assisted Living. Rehoboth Beach, DE, following a brief illness.
Anne was born August 19, 1915 in Philadelphia, PA where she was raised and attended schools. She was the daughter of the late John and Johanna Schreiber.
Anne began her career in business at the Burroughs Corporation where she met her late husband, Thomas. They were married in 1940 and shared 33 years of marriage until his death in 1973. Together they owned and managed Schenk Office Machines in Chester, PA. Anne was later employed at PA Military College, now known as Widener University. Her last career was as Secretary to the Superintendent of Wallingford-Swarthmore School District until her retirmement.
In addition to her parents and late husband Thomas, Anne was also preceded in death by her three brothers: John, Joseph and Augustine, and her sister Genevieve, all formerly of the Philadelphia area.
Anne was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was devoted to her family. She is survived by three children: Thomas Schenk Jr. of Millsboro, Judith Basara and her husband Edward of Georgetown, and Sandra Leonard and her husband Donald of Broomall, PA. She was most proud of her three grandchildren: Beth Bader (Clint) of Lewes, Dennis Basara (Paula) of Gurnee, IL and Christie Leonard of Broomall, PA; and her five great-grandchildren: Kyle and Karalyn Joseph of Lewes and Emily, Joel and Lyndsey Basara of Gurnee, IL.
Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, DE Route 1 north of Five Points, Lewes, DE. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & CrematorIum, Lewes, DE.
