Anne Landreth Layton's Obituary
Anne Landreth Layton, age 84, of Georgetown, DE died on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Harbor Health Care, Lewes, DE. She was born November 24, 1926 in Lewes, daughter of the late Halsted Patterson Layton and Jennie Harvie Jones Layton.
Ms. Layton graduated from St. Catherine’s Girls Boarding School, Richmond, VA and Barnard College, NY. After graduation she started work at the World Bank and would later switch to a career with the US Government specializing in interpretation for the Pentagon and the Spanish Embassy. She traveled around the world and was an accomplished equestrian rider, and was known for her riding skills throughout Portugal. In 1988, Ms. Layton retired and returned to Georgetown, DE.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Layton was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Meade Layton Thompson and her brother, Laurence Coe Layton. She is survived by her nieces: Patricia Meade Thompson Burke of Lewes, DE and Suzanne Blair Thompson Watkins of Tallahassee, FL; five great nephews; and one great niece.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011 11:00AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Pine & Academy Streets, Georgetown, DE.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 602, Georgetown, DE 19947.
