Anna M. Griffith's Obituary
Anna M. Griffith, of Seaford, DE, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. She was 71.
Mrs. Griffith was born March 27, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late Frederick J. Mynar and Mary Bowden Howe. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Joseph W. Howe. She grew up in Seaford and graduated from Seaford High School, Class of 1955. Her grandfather, George Bowden, was Chief of Police in Seaford from 1933 - 1953.
Mrs. Griffith retired in 1999 after 30 years in the supermarket industry. She worked for the old Colonial Store in Salisbury, MD, and later for Meatland and Food City in Seaford. Throughout her life, Mrs. Griffith lived in Seaford, DE, Salisbury, MD, Dover, DE and Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Albert P. Griffith (1978). She is survived by her daughters, Linda Shaffer and her husband Charles of Laurel, DE, Christine Wands and her husband Ray of Seaford, and Cathy VanSciver and her husband Jon of Seaford; seven grandchildren, Matthew Shaffer of Seaford, Jeremy Shaffer and his wife Rebekah of Huntington, WV, Alexis Shaffer of Laurel, Amanda, Philip and Caitlin Wands of Seaford, and Shelby VanSciver of Seaford; one great-granddaughter, Grace Caroline Shaffer of Huntington, WV; her sister Gertrude Cassel Pierce of Hudson, FL; sister-in-law Ruth Vinyard Stradley of Salem, NJ; her first husband Ronald Cover of Cumberland, MD; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stein Highway, Seaford, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Seaford Christian Academy, 110 Holly Street, Seaford, DE 19973.
