Ann Cassidy O'Hagan's Obituary
Ann Cassidy O'Hagan, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, surrounded by her husband Joe of 67 years and her ten children. She was born on January 7, 1935, in Washington, D.C. to John and Marguerite Cassidy, both of whom predeceased her.
Ann and Joe’s love story began at St. Anthony's High School in Washington, DC, where Joe was captivated by her striking blue eyes and boundless kindness and patience – qualities that would define her throughout her life. They married in 1957 and moved to Riverdale, MD. They quickly outgrew the tiny house with six children and a seventh on the way. They moved to Greenbelt, MD in 1965 and added another three children to round out their perfect ten.
Ann's deep faith in God was reflected in how she lived her life. Her home was more than just a residence – it was a haven where neighborhood children, friends of her children, and countless others found solace and comfort. Her door was always open, and her kitchen table always had room for one more.
As the wife of a career firefighter, she became an expert in crisis management, first aid, flexibility, managing a household on little sleep, and using her skills as a short-order cook to feed large crowds.
Proud of her Irish heritage, Ann celebrated her roots in everything she did. She cherished family gatherings where music was played, and stories were shared. Ann had a distinctive flair for fashion, particularly drawn to sparkly, eye-catching jewelry that matched her vibrant personality. As a talented seamstress, she crafted not just clothing but memories, pouring her love into every stitch.
After all her children moved on to create families of their own, Ann and Joe moved to Fenwick Island, DE to enjoy a dream home on a canal with beautiful sunsets. Wherever Ann called home, she kept her doors open to family and friends, day or night.
Her kindness, generosity, eternal optimism, and her strong faith in God never waivered. She remained a role model to others throughout her lifetime and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Ann is survived by her husband Joe and ten children: Colleen Ponton (Matthew), Cindy Corcoran (William), Maureen Disharoon (Larry, deceased), Catherine Rich, Peggy Richardson (James), Mary Anne Reuschling (Glen), Joseph O’Hagan, Jr (Norka), Joanne Ardovini (John), Patrick O’Hagan (Lisa), and Christine O’Hagan Stevens (Brian).
