Ann Houston's Obituary
Anna "Ann" Houston, age 84 of Lewes, DE passed away at her residence on Friday December 21, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Johnstown, PA on February 15, 1928, daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Reha) Brlansky.
Mrs. Houston worked for 15 years as a secretary in the library at the Eleanor Roosevelt Senior High School in Greenbelt, MD. Following retirement from the school, Mrs. Houston and her husband Donald moved to Lewes. In Lewes, she was a parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, past board member of the Lewes Senior Center, and past board member and secretary of the Sweetbriar Homeowners Association.
Living life to the fullest every day was Mrs. Houston’s motto and in doing so she would even permit herself to splurge on a Fuzzy Navel or Champagne toast on occasion. In her free time she enjoyed decorating, playing Bunko, Bingo and gardening. Mrs. Houston most of all loved her family, the true Matriarch of the family; she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her husband Donald V. Houston, who passed in 2001, and three brothers, Stephen, Joseph, and Jack Brlansky. She is survived by two sons: Mark V. Houston of Newbern, NC, and Donald A. Houston and his wife Theresa Houston of Lewes, DE; four daughters: Valerie A. Bauer and her husband Jack of Mt. Airy, MD, Sharon Kay Finch of Kingsport, TN, Nancy E. Houston of College Park, MD, and Lisa M. Houston of Lewes, DE; nine grandchildren: Jeffrey S. Houston and his wife Gail, Sean Bauer and his wife Lisa, Sarah Warner and her husband Dan, Scott Houston, Greg Houston and his wife Olivia, Ashley Houston, Timothy C. Perry and his wife Melinda, Amber L. Dougherty and her husband Kyle, and Joshua L. Perry; four great granddaughters: Isabella Perry, Emily Perry, Abigail Warner, and Mya Dougherty; one brother, Edward Brlansky and his wife Patricia; and two sisters: Mary Page and Margaret Brlansky.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 11:00AM at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may call beginning at 10:00AM. Burial will be on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 10:00AM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966. Services are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnell Cancer Center, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE. 19958.
