Andrew Wells Polite's Obituary
Andrew Wells Polite, age 89, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Lewes, DE, on Sunday, May 15, 1921, son of the late Theodore and Gertrude (Wells) Polite.
Mr. Polite proudly served with the U.S. Army and was a purple heart recipient during WW II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a member of he VFW Post 7447 in Rehoboth Beach. He enjoyed a long career delivering bread in the retail and wholesale food delivery industry. he later served as chief dispatcher or the Cape Henlopen Maritime Exchange. His favorite past-times included spending time with family, wood carving, scroll sawing, gardening and reading western books. He was an Army veteran and Purple Heart Recipient from WWII. He was also a member of the VFW Post 7447 Rehoboth Beach, DE.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jane Polite in October of 2006; two grandsons: Nicholas Sackett and Douglas Brockway, Jr.; two brothers: Theodore Polite, Jr. and Edgar Polite; and a sister, Margaret Newcomb.
He is survived by his son, Don Polite and his wife Ruth Ann, Lewes, DE; three daughters: Peggy Truitt, Lewes, DE, Debi Stearns and her husband Curtis of Trenton, SC and Teri Ysaguirre and her husband Frank, Milford, DE; grandchildren: Missy Walls, Matthew Brockway and Jeremy Brockway all of Lewes, DE., Kimberly Gleaton of Laurel, DE, William Polite of Lewes, DE, Nancy Dixon of Richland, NC, Lori Stackpole of Cincinnati, Ohio, Chris Edwards of Black Mountain, NC; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Cecelia Hudson and Alberta Cowan; and his beloved canine, Poncho.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011, at 2:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium. Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may call beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow the services at All Saints Cemetery, 20274 Beaver Dam Road at Rt. 23, Harbeson, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10th Street, Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801 or to Compassionate Care Hospice of the Delmarva Peninsula, 28467 DuPont Blvd., Suite 6, Millsboro, DE 19966.
