Andrew West Jones' Obituary
Andrew (Andy) West Jones, 87, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with lung disease surrounded by family Monday, March 26, 2018. He was born March 18, 1931, in Ocean View, DE, son of the late I. Ernest and Flossie Jones.
Andy graduated from Georgetown High School in 1949. He served in the Delaware Army National Guard from 1948-58. While serving in the National Guard, he made a career at DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford, starting in 1949, and retiring after 36 years of service in May 1985. After retirement, Andy worked for a short time for Floyd A. Megee Motor Company in Georgetown, volunteered for Red Cross transporting patients, and enjoyed cutting grass for Georgetown Little League.
He and the love of his life, Helen, both enjoyed square dancing with the Whirl-A-Ways, camping, and traveling, which led to becoming snowbirds to Arizona in 1990, and eventually moving to Mesa in 1996. Andy also loved taking grandkids on road trips and tinkering in his shop.
In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his grandson, Brian Funds; and his great-great-granddaughter, Abrienne VanVorst.
Left to cherish Andy's memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Helen Nathan Jones; his daughters: Susan VanVorst, Janice (Keith) Truitt, and Ginny Jones (Mark Rowe); his grandchildren: Kerry (Kevin Sr.) VanVorst, Andrea (Obie) Kennedy, Luke (Erin) Messick, Ross (Kassie) Truitt, and Adam (Kate) VanVorst; his great-grandchildren: Kevin Jr., Ashley, and Aaron VanVorst; Corbin, Kendall, Kinsley and Cailyn Kennedy; Josh, Nick, and Abbey Messick; and Reese Truitt; and his great-great-granddaughter, Augustine Leager.
A Celebration of Andy's Life will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Laurel Nazarene Church, 94 Walnut Street, Laurel, DE 19956, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM.
