Andrew Hale's Obituary
Andrew “Andy” Hale, age 83, of Greenwood, DE, passed away on January 25, 2025, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on June 25, 1941, he was the son of the late Howard and Wilkie (Hardy) Hale, formerly of Scotland Neck, NC.
Andy proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1959–1963. He was very well known for his exceptional work ethic, love for his family, and roasting pigs on his homemade grill using his “special” North Carolina sauce. In addition, he loved cutting the grass and could often be found riding the "ditch bank" on his John Deere.
As a Teamster truck driver for over 40 years, Andy drove for Burris Foods, Jones Motor Company, P.I.E., and Yellow Freight. After his retirement, he worked part-time for Delmarva Truck Caps and Utility Eastern Shore Trailer. Andy was a member of the Harrington Moose and the United Tour Riders motorcycle club.
In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his siblings and son Andrew “Marty” Hale.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Bonnie; his daughter Priscilla “Lynn” Oberholtzer (Fred); his five grandchildren: Phillip Callaway (Maggie), Bethany Daniel (Nate), Gregory Callaway (Wagma), Victoria Hale, and Sara Boone (Brendon); his six great-grandchildren: Aubrie, Chayse, Cora, Khyien, Brooks, Madeline, and a great-granddaughter due in March; his sister-in-law Frances Beach; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving him are his “bonus family” and neighbors, Steve, Amanda, Steven, Nicholas, and Cieanna.
The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care from Dr. Maritza Perrino, Dr. Kurt Wehburg, and the entire staff of the CTICU unit at Tidal Health.
A celebration of Andy’s life is planned from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Greenwood Fire Hall, 12611 Fire Hall Ave., Greenwood, DE 19950.
