Andrew W. Allen's Obituary
Andrew W. Allen , age 85, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 02, 2010 at Beebe Medical Center. He was born in Bryn Mawr, PA on Friday, July 17, 1925, the son of the late Jean Gilpin and Loretta G. (Valentine) Allen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gilpin Allen.
A resident of Rehoboth for the past 40 years, Mr. Allen retired as an Industrial Engineer, first with the Campbell Soup Company and then with the King Cole Company, formerly of DE. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working at Quillen's Hardware Store of Rehoboth Beach. He was very active in the Country Club Estates homeowners association, was an member and usher at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and a fan of Notre Dame Football.
Andrew was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sorley missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Baker) Allen of Rehoboth Beach, one daughter, Susan Benzie of Doylestown, PA, three sons, Andrew W. Allen, Jr. and his wife, Lucy of Berwyn, PA, Robert Allen and his wife Rebecca of Salisbury, MD and Charles Allen and his wife Karen of State College, PA, one brother, William Allen and his wife Janet of Ormand Beach, FL, fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren with one on the way.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach. Interment will be private on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Westminster Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA
