Anastasia Kiritsis Hensley's Obituary
Anastasia (Kiritsis) Hensley of Lewes, DE, age 91, died Friday, April 30, 2010 at Beebe Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Anastasia was born December 26, 1918 in Manchester, New Hampshire and was raised there. A member of a large Greek family with six sisters and one brother, her Greek heritage was a strong source of pride. Known by friends and family as "Ann" or "Anna" she was untiring in her service to others. As a young girl during the Great Depression, Ann helped her mother raise her younger siblings after their father died.
Ann would proudly tell anyone who would listen that as a young woman she worked at the largest textile manufacturer in the US, the Amoskeag Mills. She loved to recount her experience there. Ann soon married and moved with her husband to the Washington, DC area where she raised her family. After the children were grown, Ann worked for the Federal government until her retirement.
Ann was an accomplished swimmer. Her love of the water influenced her to relocate, later in life, to Lewes, DE to an ocean side community.
Ann was very active in retirement. Her days were spent helping her family and neighbors, involvement with senior citizen centers, and enjoyment of local theater.
Anastasia is survived by five children: John Lakeman (Alisa) of Blairsville, GA, Robert Hensley III of Hughesville, MD, Gale Ayres (Jim) of Lewes, DE, and Okc, OK and Eleni Hall of Lewes, DE, and Lemonitra Hensley of Lewes, DE; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
All services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to your favorite charity in memory of Anastasia K. Hensley.
