Alicia J. Penserga's Obituary
Alicia Jakosalem Penserga, age 68, of Bridgeville, DE died Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, DE.
She was born Septermber 12, 1937 to the late Gliceria and Rufino Jakosalem of Cebu City, Philippines. She received her medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila.
She married Salvador C. Penserga in 1965 and they immigrated to the United States to further their medical education. She resided in Albany, NY and Wilmington, DE before moving to Bridgeville in 1972, where she worked in her husband's South Main Street medical office until it closed in 1996. She volunteered in the Read Aloud Delaware program in Bridgeville and served as a docent at the Governor's Mansion in Dover.
She was a devout Catholic and longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Seaford. She also enjoyed gardening, crafts, antiques, watching ice skating, and spending time with family and friends.
She was a kind soul with a generous heart and was a very loving and devoted mother and wife. God has been merciful in that he gave her a peaceful death. She received the Last Sacrament and is now in heaven with all the angels and saints, without worry or suffering.
She is survived by her husband Dr. Salvador C. Penserga of Bridgeville; and three children: a daughter, Luella Penserga of Oakland, CA, two sons, Nelson Penserga and his wife Jennifer of Falls Church, VA, and Benjamin Penserga of Bridgeville. She is also survived by three siblings: two sisters, Concepcion Simene and Jacinta Jakosalem and one brother, Floro Jakosalem, all in the Philippines, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 15, 2006 at 11 AM, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 532 Stein Highway, Seaford, DE with Rev. John McKenna officiating. A viewing will be held at the Church one hour prior to Mass. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Seaford, DE.
