Alice Distefano

Alice Distefano, age 56 of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away on Thursday Jan. 12, 2006 after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late Dorothy and Emanuel MacCosbe. She was a graduate of Slippery Rock University in 1970, received a Master's degree from Indiana University in 1972, and later pursued doctoral studies at Drexel University. Moving to Newark, DE in 1972 she became the librarian/media specialist at Ogletown (Kirk) Middle School and Christiana High School until she retired in 2000. While at Christiana High School she oversaw the consolidation of CHS's two libraries and the automation of the library. She became involved in the Delaware School Library/Media Association, serving 2 terms as president, and later was active on the executive board of the Delaware Library Association. She worked as a part-time reference librarian at Del Tech in Georgetown until 2005.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim, daughters Corinne and Annett Thornton and granddaughter Julianna; step children Sheri, Nicholas and Chris Distefano; 5 siblings, Elaine Reppel and husband David of Florida, Diane Hrach and husband David of Arizona, Carol Gregory and husband John of Maine, Paul MacCosbe and wife Laura of North Carolina and George MacCosbe of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Alice will be missed most for her Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes, the ways in which she always made birthdays special, and the patient manner in which she listened to your entire day including what you ate at every meal. She will be missed most for the ease in which she laughed, her ability to make anyone feel cared for, and her quiet and gentle presence.
Friends may call Monday , January 16, 2006 from 6-8 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Family Parish, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE on Tueday Jan. 17, 2006 at 11:00 AM where friends may call one hour prior to mass in the church. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
