Alfred C. Anderson's Obituary
Alfred C. Anderson, age 85, of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 16, 1924, son of the late Olaf and Nellie (Barker) Anderson. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years Doris E. (Jones) Anderson (2001) and a son Allen J. Anderson (2002).
Mr. Anderson retired as a Chief Master Sargeant from the U. S. Air Force after a 28 year military career, spanning three wars. He was a World War II Veteran with the 8th Air Force, 94th Bomb Group out of Rougham, England, completing 26 missions over Europe assigned to a B-17 "Million Dollar Baby" as a ball turret gunner; he served during the Korean War and served 12 months in Vietnam.
After retiring in 1971 he was the Resident Manager of Patrician Towers in Rehoboth Beach, DE for thirteen years. He enjoyed spending time on his Honda Scooter riding all over Sussex County and beyond, with his buddies. He was an avid reader, in particular, the history of World War II. Al was truly blessed when Jean Leonard came into his life; she made the last five years some of his happiest.
He is survived by his wife Jean (Leonard) Anderson; his daughter Doris E. Donahue and husband Donald G.; and three stepdaughters: Sharon Bigelow (Jackson), Janice Leonard and Melissa Walch, all of Millville, DE. Also surviving is a grandson, Mark W. Baker and wife Kristen of Lewes; a granddaughter, Cory Anderson and husband Matthew Lowman of Florida; three great grandsons: Elijah Lowman, Ryan Baker and Jason Baker; one great-granddaughter, Gracie Lowman; two nieces: Carol Wilkinson and husband Don of Rehoboth Beach and Lynda Harris and husband Michael of Gulfport, MS.
The family invites family and friends to a Celebration of Al's Life at 11:00 AM on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the University of Delaware, Virden Retreat and Conference Center, 700 Pilottown Road, Lewes, DE. Burial will be private. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
