Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Colleague, Neighbor, Friend
Alexander Donnan of Lewes, DE was born in Brooklyn, NY, on June 14, 1933, the son of Mae and Alexander. Known by family and friends as Alex, who enjoyed life, died on New Years Day 2026, at the age of 92. He grew up in Brooklyn and Long Island where he developed a lifelong love for the city’s vibrant culture and the ocean, boating and fishing. He spent his early years in Lindenhurst, NY attending and excelling in school, graduated Lindenhurst High School valedictorian in 1952. He attended Hofstra University earning a Bachelor of Science, served in the United States Air Force, and attended New York Law School earning a Juris Doctor, J.D. Mr. Donnan built a distinguished corporate career, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends. He was known for his integrity, strong work ethic, and his willingness to help others. He served as a Volunteer Fireman in Great Neck NY, a long-standing Rotarian member, Deacon of his Church, Georgetown Presbyterian among many other volunteer endeavors. Alex made a lasting impact on those around him.
Alex cherished his family above all else. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and loyal friend. He enjoyed sharing stories, spending time outdoors, and celebrating life's special moments with loved ones. Alex is survived by his wife Maryann of 71 years; his sister Jean, his brothers Richard, Dennis, his daughters Lisa, Michele and husband Jean-Marie, Allison and husband Chris, and grandchildren Alex, Mary and her husband Caleb, Kristian, Patrick, Finn, and Fiona.
Friends may visit on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 4 – 6pm at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE to honor Alex’s life and legacy. A memorial service will begin at 6 PM. Reception to follow at Hyatt House Lewes, 17254 Five Points Square, Lewes, DE, from 6:30 PM-8:00 PM.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Georgetown Presbyterian Church homeless shelter in Alex’s memory.
