Alan Lewis Speich's Obituary
Alan L. Speich passed away peacefully at his home in Millsboro, Delaware, on June 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Alan grew up on Long Island and graduated from Calhoun High School in Merrick, New York. Following graduation, he began a distinguished career with AT&T, where he worked as a Systems Engineer for 48 years. Throughout his career, Alan earned the admiration and respect of his coworkers, who often described him as one of the finest craftsmen and technicians they had ever known. His dedication, skill, and commitment to excellence set him apart, while his warm personality and sense of humor made him a joy to work alongside. Alan had a unique ability to bring out the best in others and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Alan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose greatest happiness came from spending time with his family. He shared nearly 44 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Bonnie. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and service to others.
Known for his caring and generous spirit, Alan dedicated much of his life to giving back to his community. He volunteered whenever he could and took pride in organizing food and clothing drives to help those in need. He was loyal, dedicated, well-organized, and particular in all that he did. Alan was never afraid to speak his mind and stood firmly by his values, earning the respect of those who knew him.
A talented handyman, Alan was always ready to lend a helping hand. He also enjoyed bowling, photography, horses, and dogs, and was an avid sports fan of the New York Mets and the Buffalo Bills. In his younger years, he also umpired baseball, sharing his love of the game with others. One of Alan's favorite places was Strawberry Park Campground in Connecticut, where he enjoyed many vacations and created cherished memories. He treasured those times spent relaxing, camping, and enjoying the company of loved ones.
Over the years, Alan and Bonnie made their home in several places. After growing up in New York, they relocated to Maryland, where they lived for 23 years before settling in Millsboro, Delaware, where they spent the last eight years together.
Alan is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie J. Speich; his son, Kenneth Speich (Christie); his daughters, Melanie Speich and Jessica Tivvis (Chris); and his cherished grandsons, Joshua and Sparrow Speich, and Aaron Speich-Dixon. He is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Gloria and Albert Speich, and his sisters, Kathleen Giordano and Cynthia Criscuoli.
Alan's legacy is one of generosity, integrity, hard work, and unwavering love for his family and community. He touched countless lives through his kindness, friendship, and willingness to help others. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
