Agnes M Stevenson's Obituary
Agnes M. Stevenson, age 81 of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2010 at her residence. She was cared for lovingly by her only daughter, Susan.
Mrs. Stevenson was born in Bridgeville, DE, on Saturday, March 23, 1929, daughter of the late Charles Edward and Matilda ( Witzke ) McKinney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Robert D. Stevenson who passed away in 1989; one brother, Arthur McKinney; and three sisters, Sarah Hill, Bessie Gears Williamson and Lula Black.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Agnes demonstrated her love by caring for foster children. Over the course of 13 years, she lovingly cared for 18 children in her home.
For 23 years, Agnes worked as a physical therapy aid at Beebe Medical Center. Her hands were her life and she used them for the comfort and benefit of others. She was also well known throughout the area for her garden market. Her roadside stand provided beautiful gladiolas and zinnias and a variety of vegetables to her devoted customers. "Aggie" was a true woman of the earth who could not wait to have her hands in the soil to start planting each year.
In addition to her gardening, Agnes had a special gift with animals. She especially loved German Shepards and Cairn Terriers. She traveled throughout the country to national dog shows. She opened Branch Oaks Kennel in 1981 and charmed patrons and pets alike for 28 years. Travelers from afar and local would visit Aggie at the kennel and garden market.
Agnes was an attending member of the Midway Presbyterian Church of Rehoboth Beach and will be sorely missed by her family, friends and aquaintances. Her faith and enduring love will serve her well during her present journey to her heavenly home and gardens.
Aggie is survived by her daughter, Susan Wood of Rehoboth Beach; two grandchildren, Daniel Wood of Philadelphia, PA and Kristine Wood of Rehoboth Beach; one great granddaughter, Taryn Wood of Rehoboth Beach; two brothers, Charles H. McKinney of Dewey Beach and Clarence "Buck" McKinney of Dover; and one sister, Grace Hill of Punta Gorda, FL.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will be private.
