Addison Lee Tatman's Obituary
Addison Lee Tatman, age 93, a third generation farmer of Bridgeville, DE died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at home. He was born in Milford, DE on July 9, 1921, son of the late Raymond and Addie W. (O’Bier) Tatman.
Addison spent his entire life doing what he loved, farming with his sons and grandson. He was a 1939 graduate of Bridgeville High School.
He was a charter member of the Bridgeville Lions Club and enjoyed being in the annual Lions Club shows for many years. Throughout the years, he provided playground equipment for the school and helped grade the Little League fields in Bridgeville. He also assisted with getting the facility to sell Oyster sandwiches for the Lions Club. He was a friend to many and was always willing to help those in need.
Addison enjoyed going out to dinner with friends and occasionally would agree to leave the farm for a week and go out West on a vacation. When told one time to have fun on vacation, his reply was, “What am I supposed to do for a whole week?” He also enjoyed stock car racing and attended many local races over the years. Anyone who ever rode in a pickup with him knew they needed to hold on because he was always in a hurry.
In addition to his parents, Addison is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Eleanor Wroten Tatman who passed away in 1999, a son who lived just a week in 1953 and a step-granddaughter, Tori Ferrell.
He is survived by two sons, Morris Lee Tatman and his wife Denise of Bridgeville, DE and Stephen Tatman and his wife Annabelle of Greenwood, DE; three grandchildren, Jill Davis & her husband Bill of Millsboro, DE; Clay Tatman & his wife Shannon of Greenwood, DE and Allison Tatman & Jason Dean of Bridgeville, DE; three step-grandchildren, Stephanie Ferrell Rhanim and her husband Elias of Newark, DE; Chelsea Ferrell of Newark, DE; five great-grandchildren, Edith & Mary Davis; Laura and Abby Tatman; Austin Tatman Dean and two-step great grandchildren, Sam & Zak Rhanim.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated caregivers who made his last years comfortable and to Delaware Hospice for their compassionate care in his last months.
A Graveside Service will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, March 2, 2015 at St. Johnstown Cemetery, St. Johnstown Road near Greenwood, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
