As a young girl I could not have asked for a better next door neighbor until I realized the summer after 5th grade that Mr Jones could become my sixth grade teacher the next year! (I did not grasp math and he had always tutored me in math). Somehow I believe he made it happen that I was in the other classroom that next year! My father and he were always kidding and having such fun and what a joy it was to hear their laughter. I will always miss them.
The day Mr Jones came home with a new light blue, maybe mid 60s Chevy Impala is a memory that will always stay with me and to this day I will always love those cars. He took me and my dad for a ride and I told my dad I loved this car and I wanted him to buy one. Dad told me he did not have the money to buy one. At that age what did I know about math and money so I told Dad to "just write a check" for it. I remember Mr Jones laughed and said I needed more math lessons!
My thoughts will be with you Sallie, Debbie, Jeff and John and families today as you say farewell. We are out of town, but will keep you in our thoughts today and in the days to come.

I'm thankful to have known Mr. Jones and always felt welcomed into his home. I have fond memories of summer cookouts at their home. I can vividly remember the sound of sizzling burgers and his infectious chuckle while he manned the grill. He was definitely one of those "dads" that was cool to hang around and I loved to listen to his stories. I was fortunate to work with Marshall in the Cape Henlopen SD Office for many years as a fellow administrator. His leadership in the district was critical to our success and he was a wonderful guy to work with shoulder to shoulder. He had a great laugh and man was he good with numbers! We spent many an hour together working to improve the district and I treasure the memories we had together. He will be missed.

I too have fond memories from my youth of Marshall Wilson Jones from church & the ski trips! He was a joy as a kid to be around, always cheery, & I loved his voice!
My deepest sympathies to his family, especially Debbie & Jeff who we share memories with.
Funny how u learn so much more about a person thru their obituary! He indeed seemed to have a nice life. May he rest in ever- lasting peace.

Mr. Jones was one of the men I looked up to growing up, he was stern and loving, knowledgeable and fun. U of D football games with the Jones family are some of my best memories from my time in Newark sharing a room with John. We looked forward to basketball games in the backyard all summer with Mr Jones firing up the grill always ready to critique our game and give us pointers. You will be greatly missed Mr. Jones, my thoughts are with you Mrs. Jones, Jeff, Debbie, and John.
