Stanley H. Cottrell

September 16, 1951 - March 22, 2022

Stanley H. Cottrell, age 70 of Bridgeville, DE, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at his residence. He was born on September 16, 1951, in Wingina, VA, the third of 12 children, son of the late Frank and Georgianna (Allen) Cottrell. Stanley spent his formative years in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY and attended P.S. 77, Junior H.S. 51, and John Jay H.S. He met a young Annette Smith at John Jay H.S. in 1970 before graduating in 1971. They married in October of 1973 and have been inseparable ever since. They built a life in both Brooklyn and Staten Island before retiring to Bridgeville, DE in 2012. Stanley retired as a postmaster after a 30-year career with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a jack of all trades, handyman, car and motorcycle enthusiast, and knower of all things. Stanley is survived by his devoted wife, Annette; his eight siblings; his seven sisters and brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022, at 12:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE, where friends may call beginning at 11:00 AM. An additional funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 1:00 PM, at Wells Sheffield Funeral Home, 828 Front Street, Lovingston, VA, where friends may call beginning at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow the services at the Cottrell Family Cemetery, James River Road, Shipman, VA. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic social distancing protocols must be observed and masks must be worn by everyone participating in any aspect of the service.
