June 18, 1951 - August 22, 2021
Sandra Rose Hernandez, a most beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister-in law, and friend, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021. at home with her husband Raul Hernandez, Jr. by her side. Sandra was born June 18, 1951, to Dominic and Geraldine Poepping in Fond du Lac WI, and now joins them along with her sister, Darlene Lauderdale and her brother, Wayne Poepping in their everlasting home, heaven. Sandra graduated from St Mary’s Academy High School in Fond du Lac WI in 1969. Several years later she attended North Central Texas College. She worked as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant at various rehabilitation centers and nursing homes in the Dallas-Ft Worth metroplex in north Texas, ending her employment in July 2015. Sandra was a most gentle-spirited individual, especially kind to everyone she met along the way. She was never argumentative, but always got our attention when she said, “We need to talk!” Sandra had a servant’s heart and was always very generous in her giving. She was very intelligent and when asked what kind of grades she received in school, she replied, “I got a couple B’s once”. Sandra always dominated the scrabble board games and enjoyed playing card games, as well as electronic games on her iPad. She didn’t take losing lightly, especially to her mom during vacation visits. The only time she watched NFL games were when her favorite team, the Green Bay Packers, played the Dallas Cowboys. Most importantly, Sandra had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and recognized Him as her Lord and Savior. She absolutely loved the praise and worship services at Gateway, her home church in Dallas/Ft Worth. Sandra will be greatly missed as she leaves behind her sister, Shirley Ann Millar (Harv) of Osh Kosh, WI; her brother, Alan Poepping of Crivitz, WI; and her son, Peter John Ottery (Heather) of Lewisville, TX. Other children include: Holly Schurg (Aaron) of Traverse City, MI, Andrew Hernandez (Lindsey) of Austin, TX, Gabriel Hernandez (Emily Kroll) of Brooklyn, NY, Denee Hernandez (Gino Gomez) of Eastland, TX and Dylan Hernandez of Arlington, TX. Sandra is also survived by 11 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Special thanks to Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation of Dallas, TX, Neurological Recovery Center of Ft Worth, TX, Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care of Newark, DE, and Dylan & Denee for their special care and assistance at the Arlington, TX residence. A funeral service will take place on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St. Bridgeville, DE 19933, where friends may visit beginning with 10:00 AM.
