Richard Mihelcic, 71, of Rehoboth Beach passed away at Delaware Hospice’s Milford facility on March 18, 2018. He was born August 23, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Eleanor (Happe) Mihelcic and John Mihelcic. Mr. Mihe Read Obituary
I am in awe of Rich’s accomplishments and his life. I grew up with him from Clayton Elementary School to Perry High School. He was sweet, gentle person. I am grateful for the detail shared about his life. After high school graduation, most of us lost touch with one another and that is a loss to all of us. I am so proud to have known him and his sisters.
This sad news was just belatedly drawn to my attention by an old colleague. Rich was one of my managers at the Office of Chief Counsel, IRS. He was the kind of lawyer clients definitely appreciated and was both fair to, and appreciative of, the younger attorneys. You could learn a great deal from Rich, concerning the kinds of things you find in casebooks, but, as importantly, concerning the more strategic aspects of legal practice and its human dynamics. Although he was considerably more senior and important than me in the organization, he always stepped in to lend a hand on group projects, no matter how sophisticated or menial the requirement. He was a great guy and a great lawyer. I will miss him, and I will not be alone.
Please accept our condolences. Rich was a wonderful friend when we were classmates in college and over all of the fifty years since our graduation. We shall truly miss him.
Rich and I were very good friends and I will our discussions very much. I remember taking Linda into Tiffany's in New York and looking at the fabulous jewelry. I am sorry I did not know of his death sooner as I would love to have attended his service. We always kept in touch on our birthdays and on the death of Matt. I am truly sorry for your loss as I feel as if I have lost a dear friend.

Judy and I were saddened to hear of the passing of Rich. I became very close to Rich in 1990 when I moved to Washington to serve as Deputy Chief Counsel. Through my 4 1/2 years in Washington, Rich was a tremendous help to me in personnel matters and dealing with the Chief Counsel's budget. I met with him on almost a daily basis to discuss various matters, and I leaned on him heavily to help me maintain my sanity! I will miss both his business acumen and sense of humor, along with his friendship.

I worked with Rich for several years in the F&M Division of the Office of Chief Counsel. He selected me to be the Area Manager for the Atlanta SE Region. I always respected him.
