Mary V. Pini Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mary V. Pini went to be with our dad, Victor on Sunday, May 29, 2022. Mom was born in Jersey City, NJ on March 2, 1924, to Joseph and Katherine Kopas, Croatian immigrants. Mom lived her life to the fullest. She attended Goldey Beacom college for secretarial and accounting. She sewed her clothes in preparation only to have most of them fall apart at the seams. She lived with Wilmington's Postmaster General and his wife who 'citified' mom. Mom came back home to work at the Dupont Company and then O.A. Newton and Son in Bridgeville. She met our Dad at the NCO Club on DAFB. After a quite interesting courtship, dad transferred to Great Falls, Montana. Dad tore a dollar bill in half and told mom to bring it back if she wanted to marry him. She later drove herself there in 1953 to marry Victor, the love of her life. The Air Force then sent Dad to England. He anxiously awaited the arrival of Vicki 3500 miles away. Mom was to sign her name Mary if it was a boy. Dad got it confused and thought he had a boy when he read the telegram. Mom, Dad, and Vicki enjoyed living in England for several years. They transferred to Travis AFB, CA where Maria later joined the family. Dad's family lived in CA, and they had many wonderful experiences while there. Mom and Dad decided to head back east. They retired from DAFB and built their 'forever home' in Bridgeville, DE. She was a lifetime member of the Bridgeville Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary and was fondly known as 'The Dumpling Queen.' Many generations of Bridgeville residents remember our mother as a substitute teacher for the Bridgeville/Woodbridge School District. All of their adventures gave mom many wonderful memories in her later years. Mom and Dad were blessed with several grandchildren: Simon(his late wife Ashley); Danny, his wife Kristin and soon to be Calvin; Alex, his wife Emily; and Julia. Mom was a planner, a skill she shared with many of us. We will miss mom and her advice, especially "Live it up while you are young". Until we meet again...... A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Ave, Milford, DE 19963. Chapel Committal Services will follow at 2:00 PM, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
