Josias Jenkins Cromwell II

July 2, 1945 - February 19, 2022

FLORIST NOTE- PLEASE DELIVER ALL FLOWERS DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH IN COCKEYSVILLE, MARYLAND ON SATURDAY March 12, 2022 by 1 PM. Josias Jenkins Cromwell II, son of Josias Jenkins Cromwell, a businessman who owned the Baltimore Elevator & Dumbwaiter Co., and Rebecca Cockey Pindell Cromwell, passed away on February 19, 2022. He was 76 years old. Jay, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Baltimore, MD in 1945. He grew up in Cockeysville, MD living on the historic Melrose Estate. He graduated from the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, MD in 1963 and Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in 1967. He served in the Army Reserves and earned an M.B.A. from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1972. After graduating from Cornell, he got a job at Mercantile-Safe Deposit & Trust Co., rising to Senior Vice President, Marketing. He was with the Baltimore bank for 35 years. When PNC acquired Mercantile in 2007, Jay assisted his new bank in understanding the former Mercantile three-states community banking system. Jay enjoyed playing golf, fishing, kayaking, traveling, and spending time at the Delaware shore. He was an avid reader of history and his daily newspaper. He loved sports and was an enthusiastic Ravens and Orioles fan. For the last decade, he spent winters in Naples, Florida where he lived at Quail Creek Village and was an active member of the men's golf group. Jay spent many summers going to Bethany Beach, and after selling his longtime home in Sparks, MD, he moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE. He is survived by his brother, Christopher G. Cromwell; his nephew William C. Cromwell, his wife Samantha and their son, Clark; his niece Julia Cockey Cromwell and his life partner Mary Lou Kupfer. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and partner. Final care for Mr. Cromwell has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE. A memorial service will be held at Sherwood Episcopal Church, 5 Sherwood Road, #A Cockeysville, MD 21030 at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 12, 2022. Inurnment will follow at the Sherwood Episcopal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the McDonogh School (https://www.mcdonogh.org/giving/the-mcdonogh-fund/give), or to the American Cancer Society (https://donate3.cancer.org).
