Hope Adele Holloway

December 10, 1952 - May 8, 2022

Hope Adele (Waples) Holloway, age 69 of Greenwood, DE, went home to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at Lofland Park Center, in Seaford, DE. She was born on December 10, 1952, in Lewes, DE, daughter of the late Carroll Waples and Ethel (Butler) Ellis. Hope graduated from Cape Henlopen High School. She gave her life to the Lord Jesus and went to Long Island Bible Institute in New York, with a heart hungry to learn. Her Bible school experiences never left her. She would recount how she once drove, by faith, from New York to Lewes, Delaware, with an empty tank of gas. Hope co-owned a Christian bookstore in Lewes called Living Light. She also worked for many years at Scott’s Furniture of Bridgeville, Delaware and enjoyed being called back into active duty for their famous annual yard sale. Hope married Jay Holloway on April 13, 1986. She loved being married to Jay and delighted to serve and love him. Hope enjoyed sewing and baking. She loved to spend a Saturday morning at Butler’s Sewing Center and helped grow her niece Sophie’s talent with sewing. In the kitchen, one of Hope’s secret weapons was her famous, homemade, sticky buns recipe. These were the gift most wished for by family and friends. Like a sunflower follows the sun, Hope’s heart was always turned to the Lord. She served alongside her husband for many years at The Christian Shelter in Salisbury, Maryland. For ten years, Hope wrote the content for the free children’s paper, The Joy Page. She also traveled to Russia on a missions’ trip. More recently, Hope gathered personal responses of those who experienced cancer. She put them into a booklet called The Journey, which offers encouragement to put one’s trust in Christ. Hope faithfully taught Sunday school for decades and also served as a Bible class teacher for youth at various Christian conferences. Every stranger was addressed as a friend and Christ’s love was felt throughout Hope’s life. She seemed tireless and was always ready with a hug, a prayer, a back scratch, a word of wisdom, a smile, a scripture ~ anything she had. It was a joy to be around her. In addition to her parents, Hope was preceded in death by her stepson, Eric Holloway. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jay Holloway of Greenwood, DE; her stepson, Kevin Holloway of Bridgeville, DE; her brother, Rush Ellis; her sister, Julie Ellis-Hall; and her special niece, Sophia Hall Gonzalez. A celebration of Hope’s life will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at Greenwood Mennonite Church, 12525 Shawnee Road, Greenwood, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at a later date at Bridgeville Cemetery, Bridgeville, DE. Please sign the virtual guestbook located on the tribute page.
