Gloria Jean Robinson

January 9, 1951 - February 1, 2022

Gloria Jean Robinson was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. On the night of Monday, January 31st, 2022, she left the world at the age of 71, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gloria passed away in her sleep at home in Millsboro, DE, in the presence of family who loved her greatly. Gloria was born on January 9, 1951, in Milford, DE to James “Walter” Robinson and Madeline (Thomas) Robinson. She grew up in Concord, DE. Gloria spent many hours playing and exploring with her dear sisters, where she learned to swim in the local pond. Later, she attended the Maryland Institute College of Art, and always nurtured an artistic and creative heart. Her keen eye for aesthetics and arrangement was seen in her small, but carefully selected collection of antiques with which she decorated her home. Gloria was the proud mother of two children, James, and Aron. She worked as a housekeeper with her sister and close buddy, Janice. Gloria had a lifelong passion for reading, which she inspired in her children by spending many hours reading the Hobbit and other stories to them from a young age. She was a caring mother who sent cards, care-packages, and messages expressing her love and pride in her children. She always looked forward to family get-togethers with excitement, and others looked forward to meeting with her. Gloria was known for her good humor, positive outlook and her gentle, compassionate spirit that made those around her feel loved and accepted. Likewise, others loved and wished to help her. When she became ill, her sister Patricia dropped everything to return to Gloria’s side. Towards the end, her sister Pia provided great comfort, while another sister, Janice, devoted herself to Gloria’s daily care. Finally, Gloria passed away listening to her sons speaking by her bedside. Gloria was preceded in death by her father, James “Walter” Robinson; her mother Madeline (Thomas) Robinson; and her stepmother, Theresia Robinson. She is survived by her children: James Vadakin and Aron Vadakin; her sisters: Janice Wimbrow, Patricia Browning, Pia Calhoun, and Shirley D’Armi and Eva Murphy; her nephews: Christopher Wimbrow and Avery Wimbrow; her niece, Jeremie Wimbrow; and her friends: Ellie Mayhew, Lisa Searles and Cedonna Robinson; and many others. Our Glo-worm will be dearly missed. In accordance with Gloria’s wishes, those who loved her will gather in the spring for a celebration of her life at Roosevelt Inlet, a place she loved. Donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society www.donate3.cancer.or ,or the Delaware SPCA, 455 Stanton Christiana Rd. Route 7, Newark, DE 19713. Please sign the virtual guestbook located on the tribute page.
