Carolyn Crawford Wissinger

March 30, 1938 - April 30, 2022

Carolyn Crawford Wissinger, age 84, of Lewes, DE passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022. She loved the Lord, His Church, the Word of God, her husband, and family. She was born on March 30, 1938, in Wilmington, DE, daughter of the late William Crawford and Alice (Dutcher) Crawford. Carolyn graduated from Wilmington High School, Class of 1956. She continued her studies at Towson University, obtaining a bachelor's degree in education in 1977. Carolyn built a lifelong career in arts and education working for private Christian schools, including Red Lion Christian Academy in Bear, DE, and Fairwinds Christian School in Bear, DE. Carolyn was a devout Christian and was very involved in the church. Teaching vacation Bible school was one of many things that brought her great joy. She was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Georgetown, DE and a former member of the Bible Fellowship Church of Newark and Faith Baptist Church in Wilmington, DE. Carolyn had many interests and hobbies. She loved relaxing on the beach and traveling. She was an avid outdoors person and enjoyed everything that nature had to offer. Mountain sightseeing, biking, and hiking were some of her favorite activities. Carolyn had a green thumb and could often be found gardening or working around her home. Above all, she cherished time spent with those she held most dear, especially her adored grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. A wonderful, loving, and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a faithful friend, she was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Mel G. Wissinger; her daughter, Cynthia W. Wilson; her grandson, Ryan Graham Doherty; her brother, William Crawford; and her sister, Nancy Crawford. She is survived by her children: William C. Wissinger of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Melanie S. Doherty of Cape Coral, FL, and her son-in-law, Shawn Wilson of Bear, DE; her brother, Richard Crawford of Townsend, DE; her grandchildren: Michael, Haley, Alex, Hugh, Carol, Evan, and Avery; and her great-grandchildren: Ryan, Rhett, Archer, and Lani. Memorial services for Carolyn will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 1:00 PM, at Bible Fellowship Church of Newark, 808 S. Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations in Carolyn’s memory to The Benevolent Fund, c/o Bible Fellowship Church in Newark, 808 S. Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702.
