Mel was indeed a gentle soul and I called him " big brother" becuase he was like a big brother to me. We attended church together after Mel and Carolyn joined our church, we participated in deacon duties together. He always had a willing hand and he was a devoted husband to his wife Carolyn by the way he looked at her, talked about her and how he helped clean the dishes in the kitchen after we had a wondeful meal at their house during one of our care group get-together. We will miss him greatly and will cherish fond memories of Mel. Joe and Natasha Shinn.
Mel was one of the kindest souls I've ever met. He was like an older brother to me. Anytime day or night if I called he was there. We had so much fun together.
He was in such great shape. He loved lifting weights and breaking Body By Jake exercise machines which work with heavy-duty rubber bands. He broke the last one I bought him by snapping the weld that held it together. He was one strong guy.
Mel and his love of his life, Carolyn, used to walk by my house every day or ride a bike. Last year I saw Mel running around the block. Who does that at 81 years old?
Judy and I have lived in the same community for 11 years as Carolyn and Mel. They are very dear and caring friends. Their love was one to be admired and to strive for. My life will never be the same without Mel. I know he's in heaven standing right next to God trying to make non-believers believers. He brought God in my life when I was in dark times. I love you buddy.

Was so very saddened to learn of Mel’s passing. My deepest sympathy to Carolyn and family. I too will always cherish the memories at Gobblers Knob in Clinton County. I remember Mel and Carolyn were the first to give our grandson Cole a camouflage onesie when he was born. Kind, caring, and considerate are just a few of the words I think of to describe both Mel and Carolyn. Sending warm hugs and prayers. And am incredibly glad we got to see you a couple of years ago at Massey’s Landing.
Such fond memories from what seems like a lifetime ago in Clinton County as cabin neighbors in the mountains of Pennsylvania. And what a treat to see Mel and Carolyn a couple of years ago in Delaware, so glad they came to see us while we there vacationing. There are people you meet in your life that leave a lasting impression and Mel and Carolyn are among those people for me. I am saddened at the death of Mel and hope that Carolyn and the rest of his family and friends find peace and healing. Thoughts and prayers as they grieve their loss.
How we will miss our dear, dear friend,,Mel. He and Carolyn have been such an important part of our lives and we will cherish all the fond and happy memories of all the wonderful times spent together. He is now where he always wanted to be,.... standing in the presence of the King. Our hearts, love and prayers go out to Carolyn and family.
May you sense God's grace and peace in a very special way as you must now go through these difficult days of loss. Love and prayers.

Even though we didn't see Melvin much in later years we have so much appreciation for him and Carolyn. Ever so supportive in our Christian walk and ministry. We thank the Lord for placing him in our lives. He was never silent about his relationship with his Savior and sought that others would come to know Him, too. Imagine: he and his oldest daughter, Cindy, are no longer captive to this sinful world but are in the presences of their Savior who did so much for them.
Our love to Carolyn and the family and may the God of all peace surround you with his loving hands.
