Biography

Margaret Barnes Carey died on February 15, 2013, in Lewes, Delaware, at the age of 93.

She was born in Albemarle County, Virginia, daughter of John Lumsden and Margaret Perry Barnes.

She is preceded in death by her four siblings: Silas W. Barnes, Harold G. Barnes, Elizabeth Barnes Forman, and Carl F. Barnes.

Mrs. Carey attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, and graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia in 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles D. Carey, Jr. of Cheyenne, Wyoming, where they lived for many years prior to moving to Amherst, New Hampshire in 1968, and then Dover and Lewes, Delaware in 1981.

She is survived by a son, Charles D. Carey, III (Dave); his wife Rebecca L. Geiger and an only grandchild, her beloved Rachel G. Carey of Lewes. Mrs. Carey is also survived by two daughters, Ellison M. Carey of Dover, and Elizabeth B. Carey of Lexington, Massachusetts, and many devoted cousins, nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends.

Funeral services and interment will be held on Saturday, February 23, at 11:00 at St. George’s Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Road [at Route 23], Harbeson, Delaware 19951.
