Life Legacy

Eve Kovalchick, age 77, of Lewes, DE passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 25, 2013 at Beebe Medical Center. She was born on August 21, 1935, daughter of the late John and Mary (Crighton) Anderson.

Born and raised in Harmarville, PA, she graduated in 1957 from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, eager to begin her career as an elementary school teacher. She relocated to Chicago, IL in 1959 to be with Robert Kovalchick, to whom she was married for 23 years. Together they raised a daughter and son. In 1985 she completed her M.A. in Educational Administration and Supervision. Upon her husband’s passing, Eve relocated to La Plata, MD where she continued to teach elementary school until she retired in 1998.

Eve had been a frequent visitor to the Delmarva Peninsula since 1970 and permanently relocated to Lewes in 1998. She was very active in the local community, volunteering for many years at the Lewes Public Library. Eve also served as a docent at Cannonball House and the Lewes Historical Society. She regularly hosted friends in her home to watch movies and was an avid supporter of the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, having sponsored several film festival screenings. Eve loved live community theater just as much, was a supporter of the Possum Point Players and often travelled to New York City to enjoy Broadway shows.

Eve enjoyed recreational and educational travel with family and friends. She loved ocean and river cruises and was a frequent Road Scholar with Elderhostel. However, she was just as happy at home or under a beach umbrella with a good book or a challenging crossword puzzle. She especially enjoyed visits from her infant grandson Max .

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kovalchick in 1984 and two brothers: Arnold and Robert Anderson. Eve is survived by her daughter: Ann Kovalchick and husband Paul Longo of Des Moines, IA; her son Robert Kovalchick and wife Sheila of Laurel, MD; and beloved grandson Max;and dear brother, Jack Anderson and wife Lois of Lewes, DE.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 5:30 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 4:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Rehoboth Beach Film Society, 107 Truitt Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 or Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Avenue, Lewes, DE 19958.
