Emerson A. Bruggeman, age 88, of Lewes, DE, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2012 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was born March 30, 1924 in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Jennings O'Donnell and Margaret Bruggeman.
Mr. Emerson was raised in Baltimore and was a member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Union, Local 486, for over 50 years. He was employed by various steamfitting companies in Maryland and Pennsylvania specializing in nuclear power plants. In his spare time, he enjoyed coaching and managing little league teams in Baltimore. Upon retirement, he relocated to Lewes in 1980 where he lent a helping hand to local business owners including Sydney's Side Street Restaurant. He also became very active in local politics advocating for legislation that supported the needs of the elderly. His other interests included working with stained glass, gambling, taking classes to learn new crafts, supporting the Ravens and the Orioles, and watching CSI and various cooking shows. His ultimate passions were music and cooking.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Lou who passed away in 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Gay Lynn Gross and husband Russell of Delta, PA; his son, Michael E. Bruggeman and wife Michele of Kensington, MD; three step-sons: Russell Beaumont and wife Carla, Richard Beaumont and Robert Beaumont; seven grandchildren: David, Aubrey, Chase, Rusty, Samantha, Rachel and Ryley; one great-grandchild, Landyn and one on the way; two brothers: Edward Mitchell and wife Pat and Ronald Mitchell and wife Pat all of Baltimore; a sister, Elsie Hoax of Baltimore; and his dear friend, Deborah Hobbs and her daughter Asia Hobbs.
A Celebration of Life and Reception will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 11:00 AM, at the Village of Five Points Community Center, intersection of DE Route 1 and Route 9 / Savannah Road, Lewes, DE. Interment will be private at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
