Biography
On January 18th, Stuart I. Conaway died in a trucking accident near Lansing, Michigan. Born in Georgetown, Delaware on October 24, 1953, he has made his home in Brandon, FL for the past 20 years.
He graduated from Sussex Central High School in 1971 where he was a member of the 1970 undefeated football team and proudly represented his school in the Blue & Gold Game. He attended Western Maryland University before entering the U.S. Army in 1972. He served in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Kuwait and Thailand. He spoke seven languages and served as an interpreter in many perilous situations. He retired from the military after serving 20 years and was honorably discharged. Stuart then returned to college and received his Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of South Florida. After teaching for seven years, he pursued another lifelong dream of being a long haul truck driver. He said after being stationed all over the world he wanted to see the United States. He often called home and sent postcards to his grandchildren with stories and adventures of his destinations.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his precious grandchildren.
Stuart is survived by his wife of 36 years Boonlieng (Nit) Tongboh Conaway, his son Tommy of Tampa, FL, daughter Jennifer & husband Anton De Clerk of Brandon, FL, five grandchildren, Sammie, Aiden, Antonie Jr, Alyssa, and Dylan; father Edward Conaway of Georgetown; sisters Carol Serman and Jane Brock of Georgetown, and Joan Riddle of Millsboro, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Frances Truitt Conaway and his brother F. Edward Conaway.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday January 24, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd- Carey Chapel, 307 North Bedford Streets, Georgetown, DE where friends may call after 1 PM. Burial with full military honors will be at Union Cemetery, Georgetown, DE.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to any Veterans Charity of Choice.
